The San Marco Preservation Society is thrilled to announce the hiring of Sheri Webber as the organization’s first Executive Director.

A proud native of Jacksonville, Sheri holds a master’s degree in public policy from the Jacksonville University Public Policy Institute. She also earned her bachelor’s degree from JU, and graduated from the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. Sheri’s extensive service to the City of Jacksonville spans three mayoral administrations, where she played integral roles in its executive offices, public affairs, City Council, and most recently, the Downtown Investment Authority. Sheri joins the SMPS as the most recent Marketing and Communication Manager for the DIA. She previously worked in Mayor Donna Deegan’s Executive Office, in Councilman Matt Carlucci’s At-Large Group Four office, and in numerous other strategic marketing and communications roles. Her dedication to engaging and adding tangible value to communities will be invaluable as the San Marco Preservation Society embarks on new projects aimed at supporting our community’s rich history. 

A 14-year resident of San Marco, Sheri helped launch San Marco Neighbors magazine in 2016, as its lead writer. Today, her written contributions can be found in ARBUS magazine, where she explores the fascinating intersections of art, public policy, education, faith, and history. One of her fondest creative collaborations was co-leading the implementation of the popular “Emergence” lion mural at Aspire Church San Marco, where Sheri also lent her design energy to the church’s recent rebrand.

In her new role, Sheri will oversee the SMPS’s operations, strategic planning, and community outreach efforts. She is committed to fostering partnerships with local governments, educational institutions, and other organizations to enhance public awareness and appreciation of the organization’s historical assets.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sheri to our team,” said Board President David Paulk. “Her expertise and vision align perfectly with our mission to preserve and promote the historical significance of our community. We look forward to her leadership as we continue to advocate to preserve the history in our neighborhood.”

Sheri is excited to take on this new challenge and looks forward to working with the dedicated board members and volunteers of the San Marco Preservation Society. “I am honored to join such a vital organization and am eager to contribute to the preservation of our history and stories,” she stated. “San Marco is on the cusp of its centennial and the creation of this full-time role was part of the Board’s vision for how SMPS will lead—not just during this incredible milestone but into the next 100 years.” 

She and her husband, Dr. Gary Webber, raised their four children in Jacksonville. Sheri enjoys spending time with her first grandchild, caring for her historic home, frequenting Italian restaurants, or getting lost in a good book.
